CANDIDATE QUALIFICATION FAQ
HOW
DO I BECOME A CANDIDATE?
- Registered voters who meet the qualifications for the
office that they intend to be a candidate must obtain a nominating
petition within the period of time provided by law.
- The first date to pick up a nominating petition is
sixty (60) days before the qualifying deadline.
- The nominating petition must be signed by at least
twenty-five (25) registered voters who are eligible to vote for the
office for which the petition is issued. For example, for a
state-wide office any voter in the state, a
county-wide office any voter in the county, for a municipal office any voter in the city, and in a district office
any voter in the district may sign the nominating petition.
- Each voter must sign their own name and provide the
the residential address as it appears on their voter registration
record.
- Candidate nominating petitions must be filed prior to
the qualifying deadline.
- All qualifying deadlines are at Noon, a deadline that
is strictly enforced.
- A thorough review of all qualification requirements is
provided at the time a candidate petition is issued.

- A thorough review of all candidate requirments is
provided at the time a nominating petition is issued.
- Specific offices have additional qualification
requirements other than filing a candidate nomination
petition.
- All candidates are required to understand and adhere to
campaign finance laws and regulations.
